Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi has urged Meru residents to dismiss opposition calls to replace their legislators after only one term, arguing that frequent leadership changes disrupt development and stall long-term projects.
Speaking at a public forum in Tigania East, Mpuru said major programmes require sustained political support, which is often lost when new leaders take over and abandon or redesign existing initiatives.
He appealed to voters to allow their MPs to serve at least two terms, saying this would ensure continuity and better outcomes for communities. “When a new MP comes in, ongoing projects rarely progress. I appeal to Meru residents not to drop leaders after a single term,”he said.
Mpuru also used the event to rally support for President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The MP, who reclaimed his seat in 2022, reflected on his earlier loss in 2013, saying it halted several infrastructure and social programmes he had initiated. He accused his successor of failing to advance those projects, leaving residents without improvements in key sectors such as roads, electricity, irrigation, and bursaries.
Since returning to Parliament, Mpuru said he has revived many of the abandoned initiatives, leading to visible progress in the constituency. He pointed to ongoing road works and renewed development investments as signs that the region is back on track.
Meru Woman Representative Karambu Kailemia echoed Mpuru’s position, urging residents to unite behind DP Kindiki, whom she described as a leader with firm roots in the county while also seeking support for her own re-election bid and for President Ruto.
