The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Meru County is demanding a thorough investigation into the death of one of its members and the swift prosecution of those responsible.
Meru County KUPPET Executive Secretary, Morris Njira, has called on investigative agencies to expedite inquiries and establish the circumstances that led to the death of Frederick Gitiye.
Gitiye’s decomposed remains were discovered in Nyambene Forest on April 30, 2026.
He was a teacher at Kindani Secondary School in Igembe South, Meru County, and had been missing since December 23, 2025.
According to reports, a Kenya Forest Service ranger found the remains hanging from a tree with a rope tied around the neck deep within the Nyambene Ranges.
Family members positively identified the remains through dental records and clothing. Police have indicated that some parts of the body were missing.
The deceased was well known in the area as both an educator and a vocal critic of local leaders.
His family and KUPPET officials in Meru County are now calling for comprehensive investigations to determine whether foul play was involved in his death.
