We must have stricter rules on tobacco and nicotine use in Kenya.

Every year on May 31, the world marks World No Tobacco Day—a powerful reminder of the dangers of tobacco and the need to protect future generations from its devastating impact.

This year’s theme, “Protecting children from tobacco industry interference,” spotlighted the urgent need to shield young people from deceptive marketing tactics targeting them.

In Kenya, the Ministry of Health led national celebrations in Uasin Gishu, where officials publicly burnt seized tobacco products to raise awareness and promote a smoke-free environment. Health CS Aden Duale used the occasion to announce a nationwide ban on the sale of single-stick cigarettes, calling it a key step in reducing youth access to tobacco.
