Makueni Leaders Say ‘No’ to Proposed Ebola Facility

Makueni Woman Representative Susan Kiamba and Senator Daniel Maanzo have opposed the government’s proposed agreement with the United States to establish an Ebola treatment and research centre in Kenya.

The two leaders argue that setting up such a facility within the country could increase the risk of disease transmission and have instead proposed that screening and treatment centres be established at border entry points. They are also demanding public participation and greater transparency in the decision-making process, saying the health and safety of Kenyans must remain the top priority.

The debate comes amid heightened regional vigilance over Ebola outbreaks and growing public concern about the country’s preparedness to handle infectious diseases.
