Kisii Governor Simba Arati has challenged parents to play an active role in raising disciplined and responsible children to curb the rising cases of unrest being witnessed across the country.
Speaking during the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations at Kenyenya Green Stadium in Kenyenya Sub-County, Kisii County, Governor Arati expressed concern over school fires and disruptions in political rallies by the youth, saying the recent incidents pointed to lack of parental guidance within families.
He encouraged the teachers to work hand-in-hand with parents to counsel and mentor the young people, rather than leaving the responsibility solely to the schools or society.
The Governor warned that students found responsible for school fires would be charged in court and locked behind bars, thereby losing their academic standing and facing other lifelong consequences.
Arati also cautioned politicians against using the young people to disrupt opponents’ events, saying every leader had the right to sell their manifesto in any part of the county.
Kisii County Commissioner James Kamau lauded the residents for attending the celebrations and pledged to continue working closely with the county government to promote development projects within the county.
