Kuresoi South residents are calling on the government through the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to reintroduce the Shamba System, an agroforestry model that allows communities to grow food crops alongside tree seedlings on government forest land.
Speaking during an afforestation drive in Mosaika village organized by Youths for Action Kenya in partnership with Victoria Group Furnitures and Egerton University, locals led by Richard Beth and Benson Rotich said the system would help improve forest management while supporting livelihoods and environmental conservation.
Victoria Group Furnitures directors Desmond Mukolwe and Daisy Akemi praised the initiative, noting their goal of planting one million trees by 2027 through sustainability-driven partnerships. Youth for Action Kenya CEO Denis Asiya also emphasized the national ambition of growing 15 billion trees through youth-led environmental action.
