Machakos: Leaders Condemn Mob Justice Following Deaths of Three Young Men

Leaders from Machakos County have called for swift investigations and justice following the tragic deaths of three young men in an incident reported near Machakos Roundabout in the early hours of the morning.

The deceased, identified as Kennedy Muthungu (29), Stanley Muthungu (22), and Charles Mutiso (25), reportedly lost their lives following an incident near the former Naivas premises at around 4:00 a.m.

According to accounts circulating locally, a miraa transport vehicle allegedly struck one of the young men. Reports indicate that the victim’s companions attempted to stop the vehicle after the collision, before the situation reportedly escalated when the driver raised an alarm accusing the group of attempting to hijack the vehicle. A crowd later gathered at the scene, with the three young men reportedly attacked.

As investigations continue, leaders have condemned mob injustice and called for accountability.

Machakos town MP Caleb Mule,Mwala Mp Vincent Musyoka and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu while condoling with the bereaved families, termed the deaths heartbreaking and pledged to follow up the matter to ensure justice is served.

The leaders further urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as police continue with investigations into the circumstances that led to the deaths.

Police are reported to have taken the miraa vehicle driver into custody as investigations continue, although authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on the exact sequence of events
