ONLINE TAXI FARES TO GO UP

The Government of Kenya has proposed new minimum fare regulations that would more than double current minimum ride-hailing fares from approximately KSh 220.

For the first time, the proposals would also extend government-mandated pricing to two- and three-wheelers, courier services and other digitally enabled mobility platforms.

While intended to improve driver welfare, the proposals could increase transport costs, reduce trip demand and have broader economic implications, particularly at a time when many Kenyans are already facing rising living costs.
