The Siaya County Assembly has threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor James Orengo unless he apologises over remarks deemed sexist and directed at Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.
Led by Majority Whip Booker Bonyo and Majority Leader Martin Otieno, the MCAs also announced a boycott of county executive functions, accusing the governor of disrespecting women in leadership and undermining ODM unity.
South East Alego MCA and Women Caucus Chairperson Mercedes Scholastica Madowo condemned the remarks, while protests were also reported involving residents such as Olivia Makoyende. Governor Orengo, however, rejected calls for apology, stating he does not respond to threats.
