Garissa IDPs Receive Mosquito Nets, Blankets

At least 1,000 households affected by devastating floods in Garissa County have received non-food donations from the Kenya Red Cross as families continue sheltering in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

The affected families from Bulla Punda, Bulla Kamor, Bulla Sheikh, Bakuyu and Ziwani villages received blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets, water purifiers, soaps and collapsible jerricans.

Kenya Red Cross Garissa coordinator Ahmed Daud warned of possible outbreaks of dengue fever and water-borne diseases such as cholera, urging residents to maintain hygiene and sleep under treated mosquito nets.

Victims say the donations have brought much-needed relief as many continue battling cold nights, mosquito bites and uncertainty after being displaced by floods caused by rising River Tana water levels.
