Governor Arati Distributes 100,000 Coffee Seedlings to Kisii Farmers

Coffee farmers across Kisii County’s nine constituencies have received 100,000 coffee seedlings in a distribution drive led by Governor Simba Arati.

Speaking during the exercise, Arati said the program fulfills a key pledge in his manifesto to revitalize agriculture and improve farmer livelihoods.

He said the county is distributing Ruiru 11, a high-yield variety where each plant can produce up to 5kg of coffee per season.

“This is part of our broader plan to empower farmers through crop diversification, including avocado and banana value chains,” Arati said.

The governor added that his administration targets to distribute 500,000 coffee seedlings before the next general election.

In a boost for value addition, the county government has partnered with an investor to set up a caffeine extraction factory at Tongeri Industrial Park. Arati said the plant will create jobs and increase earnings for local farmers.

He urged more investors to explore opportunities in Kisii County to help uplift living standards.
