Drama unfolded at the Siaya County Assembly after East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru was suspended for 30 days over alleged disparaging remarks targeting President William Ruto and Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga.
Assembly members accused Onguru of making offensive, sexually suggestive and demeaning remarks during a public gathering in Oyugis town. The motion, passed unanimously, cited violations of the Constitution, Leadership and Integrity Act, and County Assembly Standing Orders.
Some MCAs defended the need for discipline, while others argued the punishment was too harsh and questioned why other officials allegedly linked to similar remarks were not punished.
Speaker George Okode has now referred the matter to the Powers and Privileges Committee for investigations.
