Teargas And Chaos As Nanyuki Erupts Over Ebola Centre

Running battles between security officers and residents took the better part of the day in Nanyuki town as demonstatrators tried to converge for the planned walk to protest against the construction of Ebola quarantine centre. Tens of demonstarators carrying a casket and a cross and wearing white gowns tried to gain access of Nanyukis central park but police officers dispassed them using teargas canisters. The walk proceeded to Majengo before being dispassed severally provingf it difficult for the walk to the Laikipia Airbase Gate where the quarantine centre is being constructed. Several demostrators who were leading the walk were arrested as police had indicated that the demostartion was illegal. Businesses remained closed and heavy police presence was recorded who were manning entyry points to the town and major business establishments
